Should I repair my Triangle Tube or replace it?

It depends on the failed part, the model generation, and whether that part still exists in remaining stock.

That answer requires an on-site diagnosis and a parts check.

If the OEM part is gone, replacement with a currently supported boiler — sized to a Manual J — is usually the honest path.

We diagnose the unit on site first. Book a diagnostic visit.

The written diagnostic report is yours.

It names the model, the fault, and whether a repair path still exists with obtainable parts.

When repair may still make sense

A common, non-OEM-specific failure (circulator, zone valve, expansion tank, air in the loop, outdoor sensor, condensate drain) can be repaired with non-OEM parts. In some cases, an OEM sensor can be abandoned and an aftermarket sensor substituted. For example, the low water sensor in the boiler can be replaced with an external low water sensor elsewhere in the system.

If a Triangle Tube–specific OEM part is confirmed in stock at a distributor before we order it, repair stays on the table.

When replacement is the available path

The failed part is Triangle Tube–specific and not findable in remaining stock.

The heat exchanger is failed or heavily fouled beyond economical recovery.

The unit is on the Prestige / Aerco Esteem recall list and no manufacturer remedy remains for that serial.

Repeated soft lockouts or control failures on a first-generation Prestige where boards and sensors are scarce.

Colorado's 2026 NOx rule bears on which replacement boilers can be sold: Does Colorado's NOx rule affect a replacement boiler?.

Replacement here starts with an ACCA Manual J heat load calculation for the specific home.

Some homes were built with this engineering already as part of the record.

Some boilers were installed with a 'rule of thumb' approach.

Energy Vanguard, a building-science consultancy, notes that "it's not uncommon for residential systems to be 2 or even 3 times larger than they should be" (Energy Vanguard, Allison Bailes, Feb 24, 2026).

In this case, more capacity isn't always better.

Our position is a low steady state burn is easier on the system than frequent, short cycles. Why oversized boilers short-cycle is on its own page: Why do oversized boilers short-cycle?.

We offer a Manual J load report as a standalone product. Book a Manual J.

The report is yours regardless of who installs the next boiler.

After the load is known, we quote a replacement that fits the calculated load, the existing hydronic piping, the venting path, and the fuel at the site.

As of Sept 2026, the Steamboat Winsupply counter stocks Lochinvar and Navien as replacement boiler lines.

We do not promise emergency dispatch or quote response times.
